VeldLab (beta)
A field-measurement lab for Windows: calibrated playback, signal checks and reproducible measurement reports for a measurement day, driven by presets.
How a measurement day works
- An administrator prepares the day: makes the preset for the measurement, calibrates and runs the self-tests.
- A session leader runs the day along a six-step wizard and cannot change thresholds, profiles or presets.
- Every action goes into a chained log. The closure of the day and the research package carry an Ed25519 signature.
- It runs on the machine itself: the program loads nothing from outside and works offline.
What it measures
Peak, RMS, clipping (as flat tops), noise floor, DC offset, stereo correlation, integrated loudness (LUFS) and true peak. Every function is tested against known answers (792 tests), and LUFS, true peak, sample peak, RMS, correlation and DC give the same results as the AudioLab engine.
What you need besides VeldLab
- An external audio interface and a loudspeaker.
- A sound level meter of class 1 or 2, and an acoustic calibrator.
- A noise file for the measurement.
The hardware is not supplied.
What you receive
The program for Windows with a step-by-step wizard and a customer report, a console tool for self-tests and checking signed packages, a handbook for the session leader and the administrator, and printable field sheets.
Where it stands
- It is a beta (version 0.10.2).
- The software is tested against known answers and against the AudioLab engine. The measurement chain with real hardware is not validated yet: the three hardware tests are still open.
- The measurement uncertainty is not quantified yet, and every report says so.
- Windows only. The program is not code-signed yet, so Windows can warn before it starts.

VeldLab and AudioLab Local
VeldLab is the lab for a measurement day with calibrated playback. For a folder of recordings you already have, there is AudioLab Local (beta).
